For this project, I created a cohesive set of promotional materials advertising a guest speaker event hosted by the UNCC Graphic Design Club, Niner Designers, featuring Corri Smith, founder of Black Wednesday, a Charlotte-based marketing firm known for its bold black and white witchy aesthetic.
The prompt for this project was to create typography through physical means rather than digital tools. To meet this challenge, I hand-crafted the typography by writing with black lipstick directly onto a mirror. The mirror was styled with props like crystals, candles, and dramatic lighting to enhance the witchy, monochromatic aesthetic. I then photographed the setup and edited these photos as the foundation for the final designs, which were made in InDesign to add the accompanying event details.
The campaign included social media assets across Instagram, Pinterest, and Tumblr, as well as print materials including a flyer and a full-size poster. Every piece was designed to capture the creative spirit of Black Wednesday’s brand and attract like-minded people interested in learning more about the industry from its founder.
The event was a huge success; we packed the room with attendees, and even had to bring in extra seating to accommodate the turnout. The campaign not only captured attention but also helped create real excitement and energy around the collaboration between emerging designers and a leading industry voice.
